Although Shodeen Group cannot guarantee the security or safety of anyone, we strive to do everything we can reasonably do to provide you with the means to take responsibility for your own personal safety and security. We hope that by providing you with this information, we have given you valuable insight into making an informed decision in selecting your new home. Is this a safe community?
It is unfortunate that crime is a factor anywhere we may live. As such, it is impossible for SHODEEN GROUP to say whether or not this is a safe area. We make every reasonable effort to minimize risk by informing our residents of significant criminal incidents that have occurred within our community and the neighboring vicinity, as we are notified. The ultimate evaluation of whether this community is safe needs to be yours.
How do you handle lock-outs after hours?
The apartment community does provide an after hours lock-out service at an additional cost. If you should lock yourself out of your apartment after the management office is closed, it is your responsibility to call a locksmith to gain entry to your apartment. If the lock is changed by the locksmith, you must notify the office so that the lock may be re-keyed during office hours. If you should lose your keys, please do not hesitate to ask us to change or re-key your locks. We will be more than happy to do so at a minimum cost.
Would you ever give out my personal information?
Resident information is kept highly confidential. We only release it with your written consent or upon a court order. Your resident file would be kept in a locking cabinet.
Who has access to my apartment?
Only community employees or approved vendors have access to your apartment. In the case of an emergency, we would enter your apartment immediately. In any other event that management needs to enter your apartment, we would give you at least a 24 hour written notice. Normally, we would only enter at your request, such as in the case of a service request.
How do I know this neighborhood is safe?
The best way to get an accurate picture of any neighborhood is by contacting the local law enforcement agency. They are the only source capable of providing you with the most complete information. From time to time, the leasing office requests information from the local law enforcement agency, and we encourage our residents to do the same.
Who would I call to report suspicious activity?
Please call the local law enforcement agency immediately to ensure the fastest response possible. If the situation warrants, we would then like you to notify the management office of your concerns. We urge residents to be “community minded” and to call about any matter which could affect or concern our residents.
Should I purchase renter’s insurance?
We strongly urge you to purchase renter’s insurance because it not only provides coverage for your own personal property, but also offers protection if you are liable for damage to another’s property. Your personal property is not covered by the community’s insurance policy.
Who provides security at the community?
Security is provided by local law enforcement agencies, much as it is for the other communities in the surrounding area. The community may contract with an after hours courtesy service from time to time to assist management in performing certain tasks.
Is the community secure?
We intentionally refuse to use the word “secure” as it can often be misleading and give a false sense of safety. Even communities with alarms or controlled access gates cannot guarantee your personal safety, as these systems are susceptible to malfunction or human error. Once again, we make every reasonable effort to minimize risk by keeping our residents informed and aware of incidents.
While You Are Inside Your Apartment Home
- Lock your doors and windows even when you are at home, being sure to use deadbolts.
- Never sleep with doors or windows unlocked and open.
- Never answer your door unless you know who is on the other side. Be skeptical of anyone who asks to enter your home, even just to use the phone. Shodeen Group Maintenance can easily be identified by a uniform.
- Do not lend out your keys. If you have lost or misplaced your key, you may make arrangements with management to have your locks changed.
- Keep emergency numbers posted next to every phone.
- Immediately report any needed repairs of locks, latches, doors or windows inside your apartment.
- Check your smoke detector and carbon monoxide detector periodically to ensure that it is working.
- Immediately report any needed repair of devices outside your apartment such as burned out lights.
- Close your curtains or blinds at night.
- Mark or engrave personal possessions for identification.
- Never leave children alone without appropriate supervision.
- Report solicitors to management. Such persons are not permitted on the property unless prior arrangements are made with management.
While You Are Outside Your Apartment Home
- Lock your doors and windows when you are gone, and don’t forget the sliding glass door.
- Do not hide your front door key under the doormat or around your front door; it is usually the first place a burglar will look!
- Try not to walk alone at night.
- Use a lamp timer to turn on lights and leave a radio playing softly when you are not at home.
- Do not leave your apartment unlocked, even for a quick errand. Criminals look for this type of opportunity.
- Always stay alert and aware of your surroundings.
Regarding Your Automobile
- Look inside your vehicle before entering.
- Do not leave your car running while unattended.
- Keep your car locked at all times.
- Remove or store valuables out of sight. Do not leave purses, briefcases, golf clubs, packages, cellular phones, personal papers, wallets, gym bags, audio equipment, CD’s or sunglasses in view.
- Carry your key ring in your hand while walking to your car, whether it is daylight or dark.
